Help Us Rebuild Our Home

Dear Friends,

My name is Karunasena Jayaratne, and I’m reaching out to share my family’s story and seek your support during a challenging time. For the past 24 years, I have worked in a tea garden in the Galle district of Sri Lanka, where my wife and our two children have created countless cherished memories in our home. Unfortunately, our living situation has become increasingly dire.

Our Home, Our Sanctuary

Our house, built with wooden beams, has been our shelter through many seasons. However, it is now in disrepair. The windows and doors can no longer close properly, leaving us vulnerable to the elements and compromising our security. Our outdoor kitchen, once a hub of nourishment and warmth, has been completely destroyed, leaving us without a proper space to prepare meals.

Inside, the walls and beams that support our home are damaged, posing significant risks to our safety. I constantly worry about the stability of our environment, especially with my children playing nearby. The thought of their safety is a source of daily anxiety for me.

The Challenge We Face

As the sole provider for my family, my daily earnings barely cover essential expenses, leaving little room for savings or repairs. This financial strain has made it impossible to address our urgent need for a safe and secure home.

I dream of building a modest yet functional space that includes:

• One bedroom
• Living room
• Kitchen
• Toilet

The estimated cost for this construction is around $2,000. While it may seem small to some, for my family, it represents a dream that feels increasingly out of reach.
