My husband, Andrew Garcia Jr., (Jumbie) has spent 16 years in prison for a crime he did NOT commit. We have worked so hard to bring him home, but legal fees are expensive no matter what valid legal theory you argue. This will probably be an unpopular statement for most people, but truth be told there is NO justice in our criminal justice system. They do NOT play fair or by the rules. Constitutional rights? They never heard of them. The Judges & Prosecutors’ actions are more criminal than anyone that stands before them.

My husband was approximately 20 years old at the time of the incident, and probably 21 when he went to trial. He, like most people, trusted that the police, prosecutors, defense attorneys and the judge would uphold the law as we know it. He learned his lesson the hard way.

Through all the challenges and adversity, Andrew Garcia Jr. (Jumbie) has found his strength in God. One of his best qualities is his love for God. Every day, he reads me the word and finds compassion and empathy in his heart to pray for others as he is going through his own struggle. His favorite verse is that “He can do all things through Christ who strengthens him” Philippians 4:13

Unfortunately, my husband missed out on being able to watch his daughter grow into the amazing young lady she is today, but we are very blessed for her presence in both of our lives. He has lost his stepfather, mother, aunt and most recently his grandmother while being incarcerated. I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose so many people dear to my heart while being locked away for something I didn’t do. My heart hurts for him every day as he remains strong in front of me so I can stay positive and encouraged to keep fighting for him.

I’ve worked on his case for over two and a half years, and I get infuriated when I see how the trial court violated his rights, charged him with a crime he didn’t commit, forged the indictment, refused to acknowledge valid legal theory, lied to the jury, refused to read his sentence orally in his presence, discriminated against Hispanics by appointing the Grand Jury Foreperson, falsely arrested family members, made secret deals with witnesses, and falsely reported the cause of death on the autopsy. How are they allowed to do absolutely anything they want without consequences?? I just cannot accept that he will remain in prison for 30 years for a crime he didn’t commit.

When I met my husband, I knew that he was the reason that I can no longer accept the things I cannot change. Now, I’m determined to change the things I cannot accept.

Our loved ones may be out of sight, but they are NOT forgotten. I will spend the rest of my life fighting for my husband because no one deserves to go to prison for a crime they did not commit. We are currently trying to raise $10,000 to put towards legal fees. We know God will open the doors of that prison, but we need you to stand in agreement with us on the fact that Andrew Garcia Jr. (Jumbie) will be released from prison.
