Urgent Help for Mom’s Health and Housing Crisis
Story
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart about my mom’s situation. Last year, she was evicted from her apartment after missing a single rent payment, despite promptly paying it back. This has taken a toll on her, especially as she lives with multiple health issues, including Parkinson’s and uncontrolled diabetes.
She has been in the hospital since early this month after experiencing severe chest pains while staying with me. Doctors found fluid around her lungs and heart and diagnosed her with congestive heart failure. She has already lost over 20 pounds of excess fluid. On top of that, she has shingles due to being immunocompromised and has been running a fever above 102 degrees. She is now in short-term rehab for physical therapy and care.
Living on just $440 from SSI, I do my best to support her, but it has forced her into a motel—an unsustainable solution due to high costs. Finding affordable housing is incredibly challenging, especially with her low credit score. I recently gave birth to my first child, which has added to our financial strain. The weight of it all feels overwhelming, and I find myself spiraling into a deep depression.
I’m frustrated that I can’t take her in myself because of my landlord’s rules. It’s just my sister and me; we don’t have family to turn to for help. I’m here seeking assistance—whether it’s financial support or guidance. My mom just celebrated her birthday on the 24th, and I fear for her well-being. She is the kindest person I know, always giving without judgment, and it breaks my heart to see her suffer.
If you’ve made it this far, any contribution, even just $1, would mean the world to us. I hate to ask for help, but her health is worsening, and I just want her to find happiness and peace. Thank you for listening.
