Short Story

Hello my name is Catherine. I am a 56 year old grandma. I work as a detention deputy and on August 20th 2024 my daughter left her 4 year old son at my house and has since not returned. At the time I was not prepared to take on the responsibilities of a 4 year old. My work schedule is 12 hour shifts with changing days off and mandatory over time. I typically work 123 hours in two weeks. I was forced to take a FMLA leave from work to get my little man settled. He was discharged from his pediatricians office due to too many no show no calls for appointments his mom did not  take him to. I had to find another pediatrician. He is in daycare I had to find help getting him to and from daycare. So I am doing it while looking for someone full time I can when I go back to work afford. I was going to rely on my 18 year old daughter but just recently her car got sick and we were told she will need a new motor. Not to mention that I have some medical issues I am dealing with. I went for a colonoscopy and the Dr nicked my spleen causing a laceration and put me in the hospital for 4 days, and no work for 3 to 4 weeks. I was forced to take out the only retirement funds I have, an IRA to get us through but that is gone. I hate to ask for help, with everything going on in the world. The poor devastated people of Florida and North Carolina, I know I’m not the most needy person. I wish I could help others right now instead of asking for help for myself and my family but that is where I am. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Blessings for all.
