Transportation & Diagnosis Costs
Story
Hi, a lot of people are struggling right now so I appreciate you taking time to read this. I unfortunately need help covering the costs of transportation to my job with rising gas prices causing my family to let me know they won’t be able to drive me anymore starting in 2 months.
As I was learning to drive initially I found myself dissociating (zoning out) & suddenly finding myself unable to process information on the road. Thankfully my family was always with me when I drove so I was never the cause of an accident. Unfortunately this wasn’t just inexperience, nerves or carelessness like I thought for years, but is likely due to some disability I have.
Aside from dissociation & overstimulation I’ve also struggled with mood swings which can switch between overly optimistic to depressed, fatigued, furious & more. I’ve worked very hard for a decade to specifically manage my mood swings but in high stress environments or jobs like customer service, anything phone related or trades it’s easy for me to get overwhelmed & flip out.
It sucks because I want to work & be independent but my brain is making it dangerous to drive & puts me in positions where I can lose jobs very easily. Where I work now, as a cashier & bagger, I fortunately get to work with my emotions manageable, but because I can’t drive & my only way into the city is going along a freeway on cliff side with tons of blindspots for 20 minutes before another 20 minutes driving through said city, my only options are Uber & public transit.
Public transit is $2 but can only take me partway to work & not home because I fall both out of service area & service hours for the ends of my shifts. And having done the math I need at least $960 to commute to work for one month utilizing public transit to at least make it cheaper partway.
I’m unfortunately the only one working in a household of 4 with my father being disabled & my grandparents being elderly. Hopefully if I can reach my campaign goal I can afford to go to work for a few months, continue covering rent & ideally get a diagnosis as well as treatment so I can finally start building a career that will have me able to move forward.
Thank you so much for consideration.
