Story
I’m a queer, Black, New York Early Childhood Educator. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD which has helped me better understand many of my struggles. Between predatory credit card companies, student loans, moving expenses, and undiagnosed ADHD, my financial situation is a mess. I have been trying so hard to get on track but I lack the financial resources to make things stable again. I have been underpaid as a teacher for many years and the cost of living in the NYC area is very high. I am looking for donations to allow me to catch up now that I am implementing support strategies for my ADHD challenges.
I’ve spent a long time going back and forth deciding whether or not to reach out to others for help. My family does not have the financial privilege needed to help me fix this but I’ve found support through small mutual aid donations in the past. My hope is that I can receive enough to stabilize my situation so that my current income can go to both living costs and consistently paying off my debts. Every donation helps!
I am working to undo my understanding of myself as a bad or irresponsible person. My growing understanding of ADHD and the many ways it makes life in capitalism so hard are helping me be more empathetic toward myself.
