It is very disheartened today, as lack of safe water preventing our kids from attending school as climate change is disrupting weather patterns in north eastern part of Nigeria, leading to extreme weather event (droughts and floods) of unpredicted water availability, exacerbating water scarcity and contaminating water supplies in Daima community Nigeria.

droughts

Such impactdrastically affect the quantity and quality water that children need to survive. The remaining water or runoff drains in to nearby water ways picking up contaminants like fertilizer on theway. Excess runoff eventually travels to larger bodies of water polluting the water supply and limiting water access for human ecosystem.

water shortage in Nigeria

It is common for women and children to have the responsibility to collect water for their families. collecting water is now require walking long distances from our community to another community, consuming the time children would otherwise be in school. Additionally, the water collected is often contaminated, causing water-related illnesses.
Endemic diseases outbreak occur after lack of clean water forced our people to use non-protected water sources (rivers, ditches, polluted well). Poor access to safe water in sufficient quantity negatively affects hygiene practice and leading to infection of water borne diseases whereby increasing morbidity and mortality in our community.
