Hello, my name is Gabby, and I’m a university student from South Korea in my mid-20s. I come from a modest background, and my family isn’t well-off. To support myself, I took a break from university and worked part-time for a year and a half, saving up for my living expenses and dreaming of a better future.
My ultimate goal has always been to buy my own home someday. Recently, I invested in XRP (Ripple) cryptocurrency, and with my savings of 7 million KRW, I managed to grow it to 10 million KRW. Things were going well until I saw an interview claiming to feature Ripple’s CEO, which included what looked like a promotional event on YouTube. The video stated that I would receive double the amount in return if I sent XRP to a specific wallet address.
Naively, I believed it. I had never been scammed before and didn’t even consider it could be fake. Blinded by my dream of owning a home, I transferred all my savings, only to realize too late that it was a scam.
Right now, I am overwhelmed with regret and fear. My hands won’t stop shaking, and I can’t stop crying. I’ve struggled with depression for a long time, and thoughts of suicide have crossed my mind countless times. I feel so stupid and ashamed of myself. I just wanted to do something good for my future, but now everything feels ruined.
Please, I’m begging for your help. I promise to be more careful and responsible moving forward. I need just one more chance to rebuild my life. I don’t want my youth to crumble because of this one mistake.
With the global rise of cryptocurrency, I know there will be others like me who fall victim to scams like this. It breaks my heart that there aren’t enough safeguards to prevent such things. Was I just too naive? This experience has left me terrified of living my life.
To make matters worse, I’ve already lost two of my cousins to suicide. Now, I fear it might be my turn. I just wanted to do something right, and now I’m left feeling completely helpless and broken.
