I am a 20-year-old Biotechnology student at UWI Mona. Throughout my life, I have faced numerous challenges due to a medical condition known as scoliosis, which causes an abnormal curvature of the spine. As a result, I have been living with chronic pain that has significantly affected my daily life, academic performance, and overall well-being.

From a young age, I have always been passionate about science and helping others. My dream is to contribute to advancements in healthcare and biotechnology, but my condition has made this dream increasingly difficult to achieve. The pain often makes it challenging for me to stand, sit, or concentrate for extended periods, hindering my ability to fully engage in my studies and participate in extracurricular activities.

After extensive consultations with medical professionals, I have been advised to undergo corrective surgery in May 2025 in Jamaica. This procedure will involve the insertion of rods and screws to straighten my spine, which is crucial for alleviating my pain and improving my quality of life. The surgery is not just about relieving my physical discomfort; it represents a vital step toward reclaiming my independence and pursuing my academic and career aspirations without the limitations imposed by my condition.

The total cost of the surgery, including the necessary medical equipment, amounts to approximately USD 17,000. Unfortunately, this is an expense that I cannot afford on my own.
