Short Story

We are asking for financial help or prayers are welcome too. We just don’t want to lose our home that my Mother dreamed of having and barely got the chance to live in. And for a headstone for her final resting place.

Story

In 2021, my Mother, my husband and I set out to buy a home. We wanted to get into something together so that my husband and I could take care of my mother and that we would all be happy in for a long time. In November of 2021, we closed on a home and everything seemed to be going great for all of us. We had moved in and set up just in time to invite family for Thanksgiving and had such a wonderful fellowship with family. Again, we held Christmas at the home with family and friends and it was so beautiful.

Everything was going so well until March of 2022. My mother said that she wasn’t feeling well and went to bed early. She stayed in bed the entirety of the next day and into the day after. I checked on her throughout the hours of each day concerned. On the 2nd day, I reached out to my brother and explained to him my concerns. She seemed confused. I called an ambulance and she was taken to the hospital where we learned that she had a brain bleed in the frontal lobe of her brain. She was then transferred to a hospital in Memphis, TN where she underwent so much treatment to help control the bleed and to get her in recovery. She spent about a month in the hospital and then a month in rehab. We got to bring her home shortly after her 66th birthday which was May 22. She was so happy being home. Everything seemed like it was going to be okay. We celebrated the 4th of July at the house with family, had a new roof put on the home. It was great. Getting closer to the end of July, Mom took a turn. She would be taken back to the hospital where we find out her brain still had a slight bleed and the doctors also diagnosed her with covid.

On August 8th, she was scheduled for surgery and we were told that everything would be fine and that she would be back in her room before we knew it. Her surgery didn’t happen until 9pm or 10pm that night. At 1130pm the family was called to ICU where she was brought to after a failed surgery. Her brain had bled so much that it caused her brain to be pushed to one side of her skull. We had to make such a hard decision that night and my brothers and I knew she would not want to live her life trapped in her brain or not even really being there at all. Mom passed away 2am August 9th, 2022. This was devastating for all of us. My Mom didn’t have life insurance or a burial plan. We were barely able to pay for a graveside funeral for her. And if anyone knew my Mother, she deserved so much more than that, but it was all we could pull together.

Now 2 years later,  her plot is unmarked with no headstone and my husband and I are doing our best to keep the house payments and bills paid. I don’t like asking for help, but I truly don’t know what else to do. If anyone feels compelled to help, we will be so appreciative. We also appreciate any prayers just to guide us and keep us going in the right direction.

Thank you all for reading.

Sincerely,

Jeff and Travis
