I really don’t know where to start or how to ask for help from complete strangers on a website I never thought I would need. I am in a very precarious situation and I really could use some help.

I am a 60 y/o veteran. My family is about to be evicted and time is almost up. A copy of the eviction notice can be provided if necessary. Out of desperation, I am reaching out to anyone that have the heart to help us with a donation of any amount. I am just an ordinary person. I don’t know any of you personally and I don’t consider myself special to anyone. I know you don’t owe me anything but doesn’t everyone at least deserve acknowledgement even if it comes with a “No, thank you”, “Bless you” or simply “Good luck”?

While most of my neighbors are bunkering down for Hurricane Milton, our second hurricane is 2 weeks, I have to figure out what am I going to do about my living situation. A hurricane is a temporary situation, but losing my home would have a lasting effect. It is not like I own this home. I am a renter. I don’t have the credit to buy a home if I did…I would because it is less expensive to pay a mortgage than paying rent. I have taken courses to earn a first time buyer certificate but I could never get enough money to pay off old debt and have money for a down payment.

If I become homeless, I also lose my job because there’s no way I would be able to juggle working with no home. This is the first time in my entire life, I have been this stable this. I was never on the street, but I was always bouncing around from address to address from job to job but I have always worked. Always. At first I didn’t understand why, but once I went to the VA and got counseling, I realized what my issues were in learned how to deal with them. For the first time since I left the military, I am working somewhere where I could retire one day. I will be in my 70s but I will still have a retirement. I have simply fallen on some situations that have put me a little bit behind. Even a donation would help. Everything will go directly to rent and utilities. Past due bills and receipts can be provided if necessary.

Please. I’m asking anyone who has a giving heart who may help or at least respond. This is how desperate I am. I am contacting strangers. Add to that last week’s hurricane and the one we are experiencing at the very moment, times are desperate.
