My name is Esther, and I am a struggling mom of two beautiful children. Last year July, I survived a domestic violence situation that completely changed my life. The case is now closed, but I still have a restraining  order against my husband for our safety.

When everything happened, all responsibilities fell on me alone — rent, bills, childcare, food, everything. I am originally from Africa and now a proud United States citizen, but being far from home means I have no family support system here. It has just been me, my children, and God carrying us through each day.

Their father has never contributed a single dollar toward their upkeep. I work hard, and I am grateful for the job I have, but my paycheck each month is simply not enough to cover all our basic needs. To survive, I’ve had to take out loans, and now I am neck-deep in debt that keeps me from getting back on my feet.

Today, I am asking for help — not because I want to, but because I have reached a point where I truly need it. My credit card and loan debt has grown to about $15,000, and if I can clear this burden, my monthly income will finally be enough to pay rent, keep the lights on, and take care of my children without falling behind again.

I am not asking for luxury. I am only asking for a chance to breathe again. A chance to be stable for my children. A chance to stand on my feet once more with dignity.
