Surprised with a frozen bank account
Story
I’m a college student that moved to another apartment. Issue is that my country charges you monthly for a TV/radio license (doesn’t matter if you watch TV or not, if you have phone you can access their channels and that’s the base for them charging you for it). I cancelled it when I was moving because owner sold the apartment. I paid for a notary (not sure if that’s the correct term) as it was necessary for cancellation, but process to cancel it changed day after I mailed all of the required forms. I thought that it was cancelled, but they kept sending bills to the old address. I had no idea about any of those bills. Now my bank account is empty and frozen until I pay off the debt. As a student, I’m working student jobs to pay my rent and living expenses. Issue is, now that I’m officially broke, I can’t work as I had to move back to my parents so I’m not able to get any of the student jobs because I had to move out of the city. Now I’m stuck in the limbo, as I refuse to tell my parents about any of this due to my father’s health issues and bills (colon cancer, issues after therapy that got him wearing a bag (not sure what’s that called in English), failed surgeries to remove it…)
