I have been a full-time mom to two wonderful boys—my eldest, who battled leukemia at age 3 and is now in his third year at Berkeley (with a tuition of $140,000), and my younger son, who is preparing for college. For years, my husband was the sole provider, but I have built a full-time career that gives me a sense of independence and the desire to be successful on my own.
Now, at 50, my husband has become angry because I am not the wife he married 28 years ago, and he is pushing for a divorce. I refuse to remain in a loveless, manipulative marriage simply due to financial hardship. I need help to cover the costs of the divorce and to secure a home where I can support my boys and build a successful, independent life.
