Stand in the Gap
Story
My mom has been diagnosed with lung cancer. She actually got diagnosed in 2021. I moved from South Carolina back to Georgia to take care of her. I had money saved up so at first there wasn’t an issue. Fast forward to 2025 I’m working over night just to make enough to pay some bills and maybe eat that week. I applied for food stamps but because she gets disability which helps pay some bills and for her other expenses here or there we are being denied. My mom has 6 grandchildren and they stay over every other weekend, she hates asking the parents to bring food. I hate them knowing that I maybe haven’t eaten that day or couldn’t afford household supplies that week/month. She got sicker a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully the hospital wanted to keep her for a few weeks in active recovery. She comes home soon. I will then begin devoting my time back to taking care of her. My mental health has suffered as I was in school during this time (graduated as of 02-16-25). I don’t know how much longer I will be able to sustain my job overnight while being her sole care taker. Exhausted to say the least. I’ll do anything for my mom though. We are on the waiting list of getting me approved with the state for me as her caretaker to become a full time employment experience but it’s been 6 months already and they are not in as much a hurry as I am. I’m not asking to be taken care of, I’m just asking that if you’d like to donate, please donate. It will go towards food, toiletries, briefs, underpads, bedside commode liners etc. I don’t go out, I have one friend that I hardly see, I’m 36 and I’ve spent my life as a caretaker as I’d taken care of my grandmother and grandfather before this until they passed.  I literally work and take care of my mom and as prideful as I’d been in the past, I need help.
