Short Story
I provided a safe and warm home for me and my little girl whilst I had a good job until Dads accident which has now rendered me unable to work with very little assistance from the government and my rent arrears are putting us at risk of eviction with my other financial obligations spiralling out of control..
Single Mum made redundant, full time caring for elderly dad.. struggling with bills and debt
Story
I’m a single mummy who escaped a toxic situation with my then 1 year old, to start all over again with a fresh/happier environment for my baby girl. I had a great career at the time so I left everything behind to move us into a lovely little home just for the two of us starting from scratch. I also took the decision to stop drinking alcohol so that I could focus on being a healthy role model for my young one which has been life changing.
Unfortunately I was made redundant from my corporate job not long afterwards so I decided I wanted to help other women feel better and trained myself as a yoga teacher so that I could start providing wellbeing classes for women and young people to enjoy, and to feel healthier in their body and their mind.
My elderly dad then had a bad fall in his garden with a serious head injury which has rendered him unable to work anymore and unable to walk without falling, due to nerve damage and spinal injury. He can no longer work or drive, he is incontinent and very poorly mentally so I am now caring for him full time which is without any pay and very little help, whilst also trying to provide for my little girl. As a result, the rent on my house has gone into serious arrears, my other liabilities are also getting into serious trouble, my car which is the lifeline for us at the moment getting my dad around and my little girl to school, could potentially be taken off the road and I am struggling to feed us both consistently with healthy nutritious food.
Any help I get from the government for being a single parent is going towards my rent arrears which is currently at £8600 so that it doesn’t rise any further as we are at risk of being evicted right now. I am really struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel at the moment as I am unable to go back to work, my wellbeing services to others has been put on hold because my focus is dad and my little girl, I don’t seem to have any spare time, money or spaces to hold any classes whilst trying to look after my dad and my daughter simultaneously. I’m so worried about losing our little home after making it such a safe space for us both to be ourselves and to thrive in a warm place.
I would really appreciate any donations or monetary help that anyone could give to help lift the weight during this difficult time, or any advice on what to do would be so gratefully received.
Thank you so much in advance for reading and helping if you can.
