Hi, my name is Mikaela, I grew up in an abusive environment where my parent did not protect or take of me. Now I’m a single mom to two amazing kids, Soraiyah (2 years old) and Asher (1 year old), whom I am trying to picture. A few months ago, I made the hardest decision of my life—to leave a toxic and abusive environment to protect my children and myself. While it’s been incredibly difficult, I know it was the right choice for our safety and well-being.

Since then, we’ve been navigating a challenging season, moving between temporary living arrangements while trying to find stability. Managing life as a single mom on one income has been overwhelming. I’ve reached out to local agencies for support, and while their help has been a blessing, it’s not enough to cover all the expenses we’re facing.

Right now, we’re inquiring about an apartment that could finally give us a safe, stable home—a place to rebuild and heal. I’ve been working hard to save for the move-in costs and have managed to set aside $400 so far. I’m also working DoorDash when I can and taking private massage clients whenever they need me. Even with all of this, it’s still not enough to cover the rent deposit, daycare fees, and other move-in costs.

To support our healing journey, both my children and I are actively involved in therapy. I’ve been working with a therapist to process the trauma of the past and learn how to create the best possible future for my family. My kids are also in therapy to help them navigate these changes and build a foundation of emotional security and resilience.

My kids are my world, and I’m doing everything in my power to create a loving and secure environment for them. This apartment is more than just a home; it’s a fresh start and a chance to leave behind the pain of the past.
