Hi, my name is Ethel. I am a private caregiver to the elderly and disabled. I’m not one to miss work, until now. In May I lost my car and had 4 jobs at the time. I had 3 caregiver jobs and doordashing in the afternoon. My boyfriend has PTSD, caused by a refinery explosion, several years ago. He has tried to go back to work many times, but doesn’t succeed for very long. A simple unexpected sound, like even a firework, will trigger he’s PTSD. Once triggered, it may several months before trying again. Hence the reason I end up paying the bills and buying everyday necessities, food etc. Because of this, even working 4 jobs, I had to make sure the important things got paid first. My car note was extremely high and I could no longer afford it. He had a truck until Friday Sept 20th 2024. I had already lost 3 of my jobs because of not having a car and he had recently started working another refinery job. I still had one of my clients, I worked on weekends for. I got to use the truck when he didn’t need it. Well, on Sept 20th, he had a major vehicle accident. I was at work when the accident happened. He had taken our fur baby for a ride and lost control of the truck trying to avoid hitting another vehicle, on his side of the road. Our fur baby was thrown out the passenger window and he was partially ejected out the same window. Daisy, our furbaby ran off but did find her way back home, 4 and 1/2 hours later.

I find out about the accident while I’m at work. The lady I work for, let me use her extra vehicle to go to the hospital and to be back at work the next morning. I wasn’t expecting that he was as hurt as he was. His clavicle was broke on both sides, he required surgery to fix that. He has fractures in his back, neck, lower back, hip, and tailbone. He also has 7 broken ribs and required stitches for lacerations. He remained in the hospital until the following Thursday, because he was between insurances and the hospital could keep him. So, now neither one of us have an income to pay out bills or to buy everyday necessities. Because not only can he not work, I have to be home with him, to make sure he doesn’t fall. He is actually beginning to move around more, with a walker and in a wheelchair. I should be able to go back to work next week, if I can get someone to take me and pick me up, because we no longer have transportation. Public transportation doesn’t come out of city limits and I definitely don’t have the money for a uber. I know, if I had transportation, I could keep up with bills and groceries by working multiple jobs. 

It’s really hard not earning income, because I’m so used to working and taking care of everything.

So, begging is NOT what I’m good at and really don’t even know how, but here I am. I’m not going to beg for much or at least I hope it doesn’t sound greedy, because I’m not a greedy person. But, $2000 – $3000, would definitely get this month’s bills paid, a cheap used car and the car legal. I would definitely be able to take care of next month’s bills if I had a cheap car to doordash again, work my weekend job, and get a 3rd job.
