Short Story
Hi! I’m Sokrat, a 21 year old taxi driver from Kazakhstan supporting my family after some tough times. My dream is to teach English in Vietnam – the bigger salary would let me pay off debts, help my parents, and save for school. I just need $2000 to cover flights, visa, and my first month there before the September term starts. This opportunity would change everything for me and my family. I promise to pay this kindness forward someday!
Need some help to start working as a teacher abroad
Story
Hello everyone. I’m going to start with a little introduction. My name is Sokrat, I’m 21 years old, and I live in Aktau, Kazakhstan. I currently work as a taxi driver and have been doing so for three years. I don’t have a degree because I had to drop out of university when my family could no longer afford it. This happened after my dad went bankrupt due to a major wrong business decision. Now he suffers from severe depression, worsened by my elder brother’s death.
I am the only one in my family who is working. My mom takes care of my little brother, and I also have a lovely girlfriend. But all the money I earn goes toward bills, debts, and our mortgage. So I just will not break out of this cycle without making radical changes, like working abroad. My goal is to move to Vietnam and work there as an English teacher. I have ESL teaching experience, and this is really my dream job.
I chose exactly Vietnam because there are the best conditions for me: cheap rent, cheap food, and a high salary (~$1800-2000). So I will be able to pay off all the debts, support my family, bring my future wife to Vietnam, and still save enough for my bachelor’s. That would be perfect.
The amount I’m asking for is $2000 as I calculated it will cover:
– Flight ticket
– Visa
– Legalizing documents
– Living expenses for my first adaptation month
Since the academic year starts in September 2025, I need to raise this amount by August 15th, 2025.
So, this was my story, thank you for reading. I really hope the Begslist community would gift me such a life-changing opportunity. I would be so grateful to all of you. And maybe one day I will be able to return this kindness to someone else 🙂
Bye, and thank you!
