Story

Lupus is a relentless and unpredictable disease that affects millions worldwide, causing pain, fatigue, life-threatening complications, and many other life altering conditions. I am dedicated to raising funds in an effort to bring more awareness, support those affected, and fund the much needed and continued critical research to find better treatments that will hopefully lead to a cure one day.  I am also a warrior affected by the debilitating conditions of the disease and that is why this cause is near and dear to my heart.  On April 26, The Atlanta Chapter Lupus Walk will take place at Piedmont Park.  I will walk for myself, I will walk for the fallen warriors who lost their battle, and I will walk for my fellow Warriors who are physically unable to.  While I walk along with many others to bring awareness to this important cause, that is only a portion of a much bigger picture. Through this fundraising campaign, I aim to raise vital funds that are needed for lupus research because a lot of times we are treated like guinea pigs or sent home to die a slow death because doctors are not fully aware of how to treat Lupus and the many underlining issues that accompany it. This fundraising campaign will also go towards patient support programs because a lot of our warriors have to choose between paying for the medications they need or paying their rent, utility bills, and other necessities.  Just one of my medications lone cost $5000 per month.  While I am filled with so much gratitude for having insurance, there are a lot of warriors that suffer because they can not get the help they need because they are either uninsured or underinsured. No matter how big or small your donation is, every dollar donated brings us closer to better treatments, improved healthcare access, and ultimately A Cure!
