Short Story

My name is Brittney.  I am a former roofer currently out of work, mainly because of legal blindness due to cornea damage which I praying will heal quickly.  (They said I will never see again without cornea transplants in both eyes….but I put it in God’s hands and with a a little prayer my vision is returning and is making a recovery!  But as far as my living situation, I am living in a pickup truck in Philadelphia, which I put a dollar into the tank for heat when I’m lucky enough to get a dollar.  And heat comes before food so I don’t really get to eat how I’d like but the cold is so bitter and I’m often in tears from the arthritis in my fingers and back.  I tried to get housing through the city’s Outreach Program but they say you must be homeless and make contact with them weekly for at least a year before you can even do a housing assessment.  I don’t know how much longer I can go on like this and I heard about this website so I figured I’d give it a shot, what can I lose? I’m just trying to collect funds for gas, food and if I’m lucky I will be able to rent a room.  Thanks for all of your helpful blessings!   Happy new year!
