A Note on Privacy
We’re sharing our story here because we don’t want family or friends to worry about us. We’ll be ok no matter the outcome, we always are~ just each time more debt piles up. “We will persevere though- there’s no other choice.” We’ve been saying this for so long. At almost 50 years old I think it’s time to ask for help. We’ve only had this house since 2019 and worked SO HARD to have our own place. Never imagined the pandemic would over inflate prices of everything, or our wooden soffit a fascia would rot like this. I believe the previous owner was well versed in flipping a lemon. If you choose to give, please consider donating but keep our situation within this community.
Our Story
We’re a hardworking couple—one of us spending 16-hour days in a 104°F paint booth, the other picking up extra LPN shifts despite a possibly fractured hip/ trochanter. We live modestly, never ask for much, and have always lent a hand when friends or neighbors faced hardship. Today, we find ourselves overwhelmed by unexpected bills and urgent repairs—and we’re turning to the kindness of strangers.
During the pandemic, I turned down higher-paying positions to volunteer for up to 30 days straight of 12 hour shifts on a COVID unit in a nursing home, comforting residents who had no family visits and helping limit staff turnover to prevent outbreaks. I contracted COVID five times and still suffer from brain fog, fatigue, and post-COVID challenges—i’ve lost two jobs recently related to this, but knowing we saved even one life made it all worthwhile.
How It Happened
Recently, one of our five failing retaining walls—nearly 40 feet long—crumbled beneath me. A loose brick gave way, and I fell directly on my right hip. Doctors suspect a closed degloving injury (Morel-Lavallée lesion), which traps fluid under the deepest layers of skin and risks infection. Three weeks later, the pain is worsening, and without imaging or specialist care, the threat of further damage or infection looms large.
The Challenges We Face
Rebuild sections of a 40-ft retaining wall (plus secure three remaining walls) before soil erosion undermines our foundation.
Replace rotted soffit & fascia to stop ongoing water damage at the roofline.
Cover MRI, specialist fees, and possible surgical drainage for a serious soft-tissue injury and likely fracture—with no short- or long-term disability to replace lost wages.
Fix his used car so my spouse can continue the grueling paint booth job 45 minutes from home.
Cover basic groceries & household essentials that have become increasingly difficult to afford.
