Story

Introduction

Hello, I’m excited to introduce the relaunch of Begslist.org, one of the original crowdfunding websites. Begslist was founded in 2007 and it was originally started as a blog called begslist.blogspot.com and then transformed into a website that gained publicity on TV news station segments and newspapers articles across the US, on radio broadcasts – NPR, BBC Radio, and it was seen on New York Time Square billboards.

The founder created the site to help people who wanted to ask for help by getting donations anonymously; avoiding the embarrassment of having to beg in person or for those trying to find another alternative avenue to finding help any way they could. The idea of people being able to ask for help online caught on and similar websites began to saturate and dominate the crowdfunding industry.

Begslist was run by volunteers and made little to know money because it was helping people in need without expecting anything in return. Begsist ended in 2010 when the volunteers could no longer work for free and put enough time and efforts to keep up with the other crowdfunding websites.

Begslist primarily focuses on personal and charitable causes with a portion of donations funding climate change. While it supports a wide range of fundraising needs, including emergencies, medical bills, education, funeral expenses, vet bills, and disaster relief, it is often used for individual or family-related campaigns for those in dire needs.

Begslist.org is more than just a website; it’s a movement that embodies the spirit of people helping people. Our vision for crowdfunding goes beyond transparency, trust, and impact—it’s about sparking random acts of kindness and connecting individuals with meaningful causes. Your support will help us launch a platform that not only facilitates impactful contributions but also fosters a community where random acts of kindness and generosity drive real change in the world.

What We Need & What You Get

We’re aiming to raise $60,000 to bring Begslist.org to life with monetization in order to compete and keep this people-helping website going. Here’s how we’ll allocate the funds:

  • Platform Development: $10,000 for creating a secure, user-friendly website.
  • Marketing & Outreach: $20,000 to attract diverse projects and contributors.
  • Operational Costs: $30,000 for maintaining and supporting the platform until the website starts making money to support and pay for staff.

Although Begslist originally started out with volunteer efforts, it’s hard to find people to work for free with the amount of work that is involved to continuously improve and keep the website running.

If we fall short of our goal, the funds raised will go towards a scaled-down version of the platform, with plans to seek additional support to achieve our full vision.

The Impact

Begslist.org is set to make a profound difference by creating a crowdfunding platform where everyone that really needs help can find support, and every contributor can be part of a people-helping-people movement that sparks random acts of kindness. Your contribution will help us build an altruistic community-centered platform that not only fosters meaningful connections but also helps those who truly need it.

Risks & Challenges

Launching a new crowdfunding platform comes with its challenges, such as technical hurdles and big market competition. However, with your support, we can assemble a skilled and prepared team to tackle these obstacles head-on. While established crowdfunding sites have dominated the market, we have a strategic plan to navigate this competition. We are dedicated to maintaining transparency and open communication throughout the journey, ensuring that our people-helping-people altruism movement and platform stands out and meets the needs of our community.
