Help Save Our Home
Story
I’m not terribly sure what to say except that, like so many others, my family is just having a tough time right now. A combination of circumstances that led to having less money coming in these past few months has had us slowly sinking into more and more debt – exacerbated last week by having the front axle on our only vehicle unexpectedly break, costing as much as our mortgage payment to fix. We are also now at the maximum number of months behind on our mortgage that we can be before starting to lose our home next month.
While it would still be awful, I would be able to deal with it if it were just me and my husband. It’s our nonverbal autistic son who I care about suddenly losing his home and sense of security. That’s obviously not ideal for any child to go through, but it’s even less ideal for a child who can’t hope to understand and who requires routine to be okay. He is somehow so happy and well-adjusted for his situation that the thought of him experiencing anything that might work against his well-being breaks my heart. I considered sharing his picture for this fundraiser, as his beautiful knee-length hair would be eye-catching, but that felt a little exploitative. I’m also very careful about putting his picture out onto the internet, and ultimately couldn’t bring myself to do it. Instead, I’m sharing this haunted house decorated with Nightmare Before Christmas characters, because the possibility of actually losing our home is sort of our nightmare before Christmas.
We are trying our hardest. My husband already works as much overtime as allowed, while finishing up his required classes to be able to get started on building his business, but the fruits of that will be some time out. I am also starting a couple of businesses (well, one is more of a side-hustle that will hopefully blossom into a business someday, but one is an actual business). I’m feeling very positive about my ability to help pick up the slack and prevent these financial troubles in the future, but I am literally just starting. I know it’s a lot to ask, but $5,000 to help us at least get on top of our mortgage would save us. In no way do I expect that much, especially from any one person, but anything helps. I appreciate anyone who read this far, even if all you have to offer are prayers or best wishes. Thank you.
