Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. I am Danikka, 26 from the Philippines, a breadwinner since 19 years old, a first time mom and I recently gave birth.

I made a mistake of mismanaging my finances. I am living paycheck to paycheck and I overestimated my capacity to help and pay. For my own needs when I was still pregnant (prenatal vitamins, medicine, ultrasound, laboratory results, buying essentials for my child after birth) – I use my salary to fund those, while also helping my mother and grandmother for their own needs and medicine maintenance, while also paying for car loan, utility (internet, water, electricity), grocery. I drained my funds helping not only myself. I lived off of my credit card which I really regret now, I was only able to pay for the minimum amount due for the past months until the balance grew including the high interest rate. Salary in this country is low and the cost of living is high and the inflation too.

The stress this debt caused has taken a toll on my family. Not to mention I’m still going through my postpartum.

Even if I go back to work next month, my salary won’t be enough to cover my needs, my child’s need, my bills, and to add that credit card debt. I’m going to have a hard time. I have learned from my mistake, this is such a huge lesson for me. I want to welcome 2025 positively and be debt free so I can focus on the necessities and not having this huge debt.

If converted to USD from PHP, $2,500 atleast is my debt (foreign exchange rate applies).
