At 16 years old, Kiersten had her whole life ahead of her. A bright, talented, and hardworking high school student, Kiersten was an active member of her community—whether it was excelling in her studies, playing softball for her school, or volunteering at local charity events. But in a heartbreaking turn of events, Kiersten’s world was shattered when she suffered a severe head injury in a freak accident.

What was supposed to be an ordinary day took a tragic turn when Kiersten got beamed in the back of the head with a softball off of a bat waiting for her game to start. The impact caused a traumatic brain injury that left her unconscious and in critical condition. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed the severity of the injury: Kiersten’s brain has suffered significant trauma, and her recovery is uncertain. The initial prognosis is several brain bleeds and hematomas causing significant alterations to her brain capacity. While the doctors are cautiously optimistic, Kiersten is facing a long, difficult road ahead.

In the weeks since the accident, Kiersten has undergone multiple surgeries to relieve pressure on her brain. She is now in a medically induced coma, with no clear timeline for when she might wake up. When she does regain consciousness, Kiersten will need extensive physical and cognitive rehabilitation to help her relearn basic skills like speaking, walking, and even remembering how to do everyday tasks. The toll on Kiersten’s parents—especially her mother, who is by her side in the hospital every day—has been overwhelming.

The financial burden of Kiersten’s recovery is unimaginable. With ongoing hospital stays, surgeries, and the need for specialized rehabilitation, the costs are climbing by the day. Her father is a bread man working daily in hopes to keep his income increased, and her mother a social worker. Kiersten’s family was already struggling to make ends meet before the accident, and now they face mounting medical bills, her mother’s inability to work, and the overwhelming stress of caring for Kiersten during this traumatic time.

We are asking for your help. Kiersten’s family needs your support to cover her medical expenses, cognitive therapy, and to help them through this impossible situation. No parent should ever have to face the fear of losing their child, but Kiersten’s family also needs to focus on her recovery without the crushing weight of financial strain. Kiersten was a bright, young lady who always managed to make anyone and everyone feel welcome. While being in a coma, her family is hoping that she comes back the same as she went in. However, due to the expenses, the local hospital cannot support all of the higher-end facilitation to ensure a great outcome and it is just not affordable to maintain for such a period of time for Kiersten’s parents.
