Story

Hello, all. My name is Laila Resende, I live in Divinopolis, Minas Gerais, in Brazil. I need your help caring for a very weakened cat.

  • I found a frail cat, Alfredo, abandoned and meowing right in front of my house. He was in bad shape, he had wounds all over. He had trouble breathing because the open wound on his nose was bleeding profusely. I immediately took him to the vet, where he was diagnosed with sporotrichosis.

  • Sporotrichosis is a contagious fungal infection that can spread to other cats and even humans, especially those with weakened immune systems. If left untreated, Alfredo could pass the disease to other street cats or pets that go outside. The only alternative would be euthanasia, but this disease is treatable and can be cured.

  • The treatment is long, taking at least three months for the wounds to heal and for Alfredo to no longer be contagious. Alfredo already has a home waiting for him, but his future guardian has an autoimmune condition, so he needs to stay in a specialized care facility until he’s fully cured.

  • We need to raise at least 6,000 reais (about $1,200 USD) to cover Alfredo’s care and treatment. I was fortunately able to cover his treatment for the first month, but the vet bills are stacking up quickly.

Please consider donating to help Alfredo get healthy and join his new home very soon. Any help is appreciated.
