Short Story

Hi, my name is Jamaya I’m a 21-year-old full-time dental student and hotel receptionist, working hard to fund my education. I’m $2,500 short of my tuition and have fallen behind due to essential living expenses like rent, groceries, and my car note all without a support system.

Dental care changed my life and my confidence, and now I’m dedicated to helping others rediscover their smiles with empathy and compassion. I mentor, volunteer, and teach children about kindness and growth but now, I need a little help myself.

Your support means everything. Thank you for believing in my journey.

Story

An award I’ve received IMG 2425 IMG 3090 IMG 3089 IMG 9828My name is Jamaya, and I’m a 21-year-old dental student with a big dream and a bigger heart. I’m working full-time as a hotel receptionist while attending school full-time, chasing my dream of becoming a dental professional because I know, firsthand, how a smile can change a life.

Growing up, I had a severe overbite from thumb-sucking and was bullied because of it, and for a long time, I hid my smile. But thanks to a wonderful orthodontist and braces, everything changed. My confidence blossomed and now, smiling is something I do freely and often. I want to help others feel that same transformation. I want to be the person who helps people love their smile again with empathy, dignity, and care.

I’m  $2,500 short on my tuition, and it’s holding me back. I’m on a payment plan but have fallen behind due to life’s demands: groceries, car note, rent, and insurance all on my shoulders, with no support system to fall back on.

Despite the obstacles, I give back whenever I can. I serve as Mentorship Chair for the Professional Women’s Council on campus, volunteer in my community, and work as an after-school ACE teacher for Communities in Schools of North Texas, teaching children about empathy, fellowship, and lifelong learning.

I’m doing everything I can, but I can’t do this alone. If you believe in hard work, second chances, and the power of a smile please consider helping me stay in school. Every penny brings me closer to my goal and to a future where I can give others the confidence to smile again.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
