Hello friends and family,

I am writing to you today to ask for your help. My sister and I have had our nephew in our home the last 2 years when we became his court ordered placement. His best interests and highly specialized needs are not being considered and met by the current parties involved in his child welfare case. We have done everything in our power to meet his every need and fight for him at every turn. At this point, we are in need of legal representation to intervene on this case ASAP. It will cost $5,000 to retain a child welfare attorney. We are reaching out to our friends and family to please consider donating.

Recently, DSS unexpectedly filed an emergency petition to have him removed from our home. An administrative judge authorized the motion but it was overturned a week later when the state could not give a clear and concise argument to justify a removal. DSS has put in more work the last 2 weeks trying to remove him from us than they have done for him the entire 3-4 years he’s been in their custody.

We live in constant fear of what may happen if the state continues to make unsubstantiated claims and behave in unethical ways that will isolate him from his relatives and the strong supports we worked so hard to build around him. This wasn’t the first time they have threatened removal based on false claims. We are his biggest advocates and fiercest protectors and he needs us now more than ever.
