Story

I am a retired Registered Nurse and have been my mother’s caretaker for a number of years. She is 78 wheelchair bound with CML leukemia and has an above the knee amputation on the right side. She continues to take chemo daily and has been fighting the cancer 18 years now. I’m not eligible yet to draw any retirement or finances. Mom became ill several years ago and required more assistance in the home for her daily needs. I’m the eldest and I left my career in nursing after 30 years to provide the care my mother needed. We barely get by on just her social security and we do not have a vehicle and depend on friends and family for her trips to the cancer center. I’m just asking for some assistance to help with my mother. It get depressing watching her worry and wonder where money will come from to get by. I don’t like asking for help but I don’t know what else to do but reach out to others and I can only request assistance. I just need to be able to see she is taken care of properly. She is also a retired Registered Nurse and delivered babies for 38 years during her career. We was receiving $178 a month in food assistance but that was stopped several months ago. $178 a month isn’t much for two people to buy food with monthly. If you can’t give I understand everyone is struggling these days and I’m sure there are others worse than we are. But it would be great to have a dependable vehicle to get my mom to her appointments every week without having to depend on finding a ride from someone. I’ve tried reselling to help make ends meet but that isn’t always a guarantee with a income. As I’ve heard before it’s not always about the fall it’s what you do to get up and keep going. I get up everyday and try something. God bless you all.
